2008 Diwali function at Aberdeen

2008 Diwali function was hosted by the Indian Association North East of Scotland (IANES for short) on 25th November at the Harlaw Academy in Aberdeen. The festival is due to be celebrated across India on the 28th. The function was attended by a large Indian diaspora living in Aberdeen. The function started with a prayer to Goddess Lakshmi. The stage programmes mainly consisted of filmi song and dance sequences from a few Indian languages. These were followed by a spectacular firework display. The evening was rounded off by a disco at the dance floor.

My children, Lalit and Pranav got a chance to perform a couple of times in the function. Firstly, in a kids fashion show and secondly in recitation of a few traditional Sanskrit Slokas. Pranav recited the famous Shuklam Bharadaram and Guru Brahma, whilst Lalit recited Lakshmi Ashtakam.

The others were somewhere close by. I just got a chance to take a few snaps that day. For most of that evening I was busy shooting on my camcorder.
